How it was calculated
  1. gross 100: the table deducts 3 worst holes with a +0 adjustment
  2. worst holes (capped at double par, holes 17 and 18 excluded): hole 8: 8, hole 4: 7, hole 12: 7
  3. 22 + 0 rounds to 22
  4. net = 100 − 22 = 78

Worked example

A gross score of 100 gives a Callaway handicap of 22 and a net score of 78.

  1. gross 100: the table deducts 3 worst holes with a +0 adjustment
  2. worst holes (capped at double par, holes 17 and 18 excluded): hole 8: 8, hole 4: 7, hole 12: 7
  3. 22 + 0 rounds to 22
  4. net = 100 − 22 = 78

How it is calculated

Find the gross score in the Callaway table to see how many of the worst holes to deduct and what adjustment to apply. Deduct the highest hole scores (a half means half that hole) with two rules: no hole is deducted at more than double its par, and the last two holes are never deducted. Add the adjustment, round, and that is the handicap. Net is gross minus handicap. Parful runs guest days with exactly this table.

When it does not apply

  • The last two holes never count toward the deduction, so a player cannot ease off once their worst holes are covered.
  • A catastrophe counts only as far as double par on that hole.
  • Callaway needs the full eighteen holes. It is not defined for nine.

Questions

Who is Callaway for?

Guest days, society outings and charity events where some of the field have no handicap. It produces a fair handicap from the round just played.

Why are the last two holes excluded?

So the system cannot be gamed. If the 17th and 18th could be deducted, a player who knew their worst holes were already covered could throw those away.

Is Callaway the same as Peoria?

No. Callaway deducts the worst holes from the whole card. Peoria takes six secret holes chosen before play and scales them up. System 36 awards points per hole. All three are on Parful.
