The schedule is a round robin built by the circle method: one team stays in place and the others rotate one position each week, so every team meets every other team once. That takes one week fewer than the number of teams when the count is even, and one week per team when it is odd.
With an odd number of teams, one team sits out each week and the bye goes round so every team has the same number. A season longer than one round starts the cycle again; a shorter one stops part way, and the summary above the schedule says how far it gets.

How do you make a golf league schedule?
Decide how many teams or players are in the league and how many weeks you have, then pair them so everyone plays everyone: a round robin. This generator does the pairing for you by the circle method, adds a bye each week if the count is odd, and dates every week from your first league night.
How many weeks does a golf league need?
For everyone to play everyone once, one week fewer than the number of teams when the count is even (8 teams need 7 weeks), and one week per team when it is odd (9 teams need 9 weeks). A longer season starts a second round of the same pairings.
What happens with an odd number of teams?
One team has a bye each week. Over a full round every team gets exactly one bye, so nobody plays more matches than anyone else.
