Golf Score Differential Calculator

Turn one round into the Score Differential the World Handicap System uses. Enter your adjusted gross score and the tee you played, or search your course.

Your gross after every hole is capped at net double bogey. Use the Net Double Bogey calculator if you are unsure.

Score DifferentialExample

13.5

An adjusted gross score of 88 on a tee with a course rating of 72.2 and a slope of 132 gives a score differential of 13.5.

Adjusted gross score:
88
Slope Rating:
132
Course Rating:
72.2
How it was calculated
  1. (113 ÷ 132) × (88 − 72.2)
  2. 0.8561 × 15.8 = 13.526
  3. rounds to 13.5

Rule: score differential

Worked example

An adjusted gross score of 88 on a tee with a course rating of 72.2 and a slope of 132 gives a score differential of 13.5.

  1. (113 ÷ 132) × (88 − 72.2)
  2. 0.8561 × 15.8 = 13.526
  3. rounds to 13.5

How it is calculated

Score Differential = (113 ÷ Slope Rating) × (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating − PCC), rounded to one decimal. It expresses how well you played relative to the tee's difficulty, on the same scale as a Handicap Index.

When it does not apply

  • Use the ADJUSTED gross, each hole capped at net double bogey, not the score on the card. On Parful, club rounds record the raw gross as the adjusted gross.
  • PCC is set by the handicap authority for the day, from −1 to +3. Parful always uses zero.

Questions

Why does a lower slope give a bigger differential?

Because 113 ÷ slope is larger on an easier tee. The same number of strokes over the rating counts for more when the course was easier.

Is this my new Handicap Index?

No. Your index is the average of your best eight differentials from your last twenty. This is one of them.
