Mixed Tees Handicap Adjustment Calculator
When a field plays different tees, the Course Handicap already accounts for the rating difference. What it misses is a difference in par. This works out that adjustment and nothing else.
AdjustmentExample
+2
A tee with par 72 against a reference tee with par 70 gives a mixed-tee adjustment of +2 strokes.
- Par of my tee:
- 72
- Par of the reference tee:
- 70
- My tee's Course Rating:
- 72.2
- Reference tee's Course Rating:
- 69.8
How it was calculated
- par difference: 72 − 70 = +2
- course rating difference 2.4 is NOT added, the Course Handicap already carries it
- adjustment = +2 strokes
Rule: mixed tees
Worked example
A tee with par 72 against a reference tee with par 70 gives a mixed-tee adjustment of +2 strokes.
- par difference: 72 − 70 = +2
- course rating difference 2.4 is NOT added, the Course Handicap already carries it
- adjustment = +2 strokes
How it is calculated
Under WHS Rule 6.2b a player on a tee with a higher par than the reference tee receives the par difference as extra strokes; a lower par gives strokes back. Nothing else is added: the Course Handicap already contains the Course Rating, so adjusting for rating again would double-count it. Parful applies this on club outings by default and, for Events, the strict form referenced to the lowest par in the field.
When it does not apply
- Do NOT add the Course Rating difference. That is the most common mistake, and it double-counts what the Course Handicap already did.
- A single-tee field needs no adjustment. It is always zero.
- Applied to stroke play and match play against other players. Not to Stableford or to formats scored against par, where each player is already measured against their own tee.
Questions
Why not adjust for the Course Rating?
Because the Course Handicap formula already includes Course Rating minus par for each player's own tee. The only thing it does not reconcile between tees is par itself.
Who is the reference tee?
Whatever the committee declares, or the tee most of the field plays. In Parful Events it is the lowest par in the field, so every adjustment is zero or positive.
