Worked example

A greensomes pair with course handicaps of 11 and 20 from a tee with a slope of 132, a course rating of 72.2 and a par of 72 plays off a team handicap of 15.

  1. course handicaps: 11 (lower) and 20 (higher)
  2. 11 × 60% + 20 × 40% = 14.6
  3. rounds to 15

How it is calculated

Convert both indexes to Course Handicaps, then take 60% of the lower and 40% of the higher and add them. Rounded once. Greensomes and Chapman (Pinehurst) both use this split, because the choice of drive favours the better player. Parful applies the same 60/40.

When it does not apply

  • The lower handicap always takes the 60%. The calculator sorts them for you.

Questions

Why not half each, like foursomes?

Because in greensomes the pair chooses the better drive, which gives the stronger player more influence. The 60/40 split reflects that.

Does this cover Chapman?

Yes. Chapman (Pinehurst) uses the identical 60/40 allowance.

The rule

This calculator applies the rule explained at www.parful.io/formats/greensomes.
